The eye loves geometric shapes and anything that repeats. The square of the napkin, the check pattern, the grid, the square biscuits... When there are patterns and then...oh no! - shock horror! - you break the pattern - that's actually a winning formula. If all my squares were in a straight row, it would be boring, but create some angles and a little bit of randomness, then add in a semi-circle! It just works.
